When you take damage from a card effect: You can Special Summon this card from your hand, and if you do, gain Life Points equal to the damage you took.
The monster effect of "Damage Mage" is a Trigger Effect that activates in the hand. (It cannot be activated during the Damage Step.)
This effect does not target.
This effect can be activated when you take damage from the effect of your own or your opponent's card. (It can be activated during either player's turn.)
The process of "Special Summon this card from your hand" and the process of "gain LP equal to the damage you took" are treated as occurring simultaneously.
If you take damage from the effect of a card that was activated as Chain 2 or higher, you cannot activate the monster effect of "Damage Mage."
